  • Tata Motors reported a consolidated net profit of Rs. 6.50 bn for the third quarter ended December 31, 2009, driven by new demand in the local market for new products added with government stimulus.
  • ABB Ltd posted a 35% decline in consolidated net profit at Rs. 3.54 bn for the year ending December 31, 2009 amid sluggish economic conditions.
  • Power Grid Corporation will invest a sum of Rs. 28.45 bn in various projects. The board of directors decided to invest Rs. 2.32 bn for system strengthening in Southern Region.
    The board has approved investment of Rs. 21.44 bn for the transmission system associated with Pallatana Gas-Based Power Project and Bongaigaon Thermal Power Station.

  • The government plans to come out with the first-ever roadmap within six months for reducing public debt, which has been rising after the exchequer got a hit due to stimulus packages.
  • Manufacturers increased production and employment in February, signaling factories are leading the nation out of recession. The Institute for Supply Management’s factory index fell to 56.5 from January’s 58.4, which was a five-year high, figures from the Tempe, Arizona-based group showed.
  • Spending by US consumers increased in January for a fourth consecutive month. The 0.5% increase in purchases was more than anticipated and followed a 0.3% gain in December that was larger than previously estimated, Commerce Department figures showed. Incomes climbed 0.1%, short of expectations and reflecting declines in dividends and interest.
